TODDLER GIRL SPRING/SUMMER CAPSULE WARDROBE

A few of the items in this post are affiliate links. You don’t get charged any extra, but my family receives a small commission when you shop via one of my affiliate links & we are so grateful for your support!

*I was asked to get this post out ASAP for all my mama friends waiting to start buying for their daughters’ summer clothes, which made me so happy 👏 In order to do this, I wasn’t able to photograph Liv wearing all of the items mentioned yet. I’ll have the rest of the photos up by the end of the week, so check back if you’re curious about what they look like INR :)

I love creating capsule wardrobes for my kids and I have so much fun putting them together.

If you’re wondering what a capsule wardrobe is, it’s basically just a smaller wardrobe made up of pieces that can be mixed and matched to create multiple looks.

I tend to call our capsule wardrobes “capsule-ish wardrobes,” because I don’t stick to a certain number of pieces or anything like that. I buy what we need, try to stay minimal, and purchase quality over quantity.

Also, just a little side note: If you follow me on Instagram, you may see my kids wearing clothes that aren’t listed in our capsule wardrobes. This is because I occasionally have the opportunity to do collabs with small shops and/or I saw something precious that I decided to purchase after I created this post. This is my base and our must-haves, but if I see something over the next few months that I’d like to buy for them, I will :) These capsules aren’t meant to be legalistic, they’re just for fun and to be helpful. Also, most of the items below are not affiliate links - I don’t pick their wardrobes off of affiliate commission or collabs ❤️

Favorite Bow Shop 1 | Favorite Bow Shop 2 | Favorite Bow Shop 3 (amazing mama owned small shops!)

Turban Hat (the BEST turbans, I love this mama and her small shop!)

Tank 1 | 6 Pack Tanks | Tank 3

White Shirt | Cream Graphic Tee | Black Graphic Tee

Denim Shorts | Cream Bloomers | Floral Bloomers 1 | Floral Bloomers 2

Grey Zip Hoodie | Swim Suit (CLAY) | Overalls |

Black Hightop Converse | White Converse

Some of the items above, like the cream bloomers, the floral bloomers 2, and her bows etc. are from her fall capsule wardrobe. I was able to pull from her fall capsule wardrobe and continue using some of the items, which is a big reason I buy quality over quantity and size up a bit if I can!

I shared my process for creating capsule wardrobes for my kids on Alivia’s Fall Capsule Wardrobe post, you can read that Here.

My list:

I use a note app called ASANA to keep track of all my capsule wardrobe lists. I make a list of what I think I’ll need, and then I start watching for sales. I also upload photos and use it as a design board.

  • Sweaters (1)

  • Shirts/tanks (7-10)

  • Bottoms (5)

  • Swimsuit (1)

  • Shoes (2)

  • Pajamas (I didn’t include her pajamas in the photo below, but I get all of the kids’ pajamas from Primary.com. They are the best quality and they have the best customer service. I think they were the first company I ever did a collaboration with and they are seriously the kindest company to work with. I always know that whatever I buy from them will last through multiple kids (Liv has worn a ton of Locke’s old Primary clothes). Use code PRIMARYJESSIEM16 at checkout for 25% off.

What is my budget for capsule wardrobes?

I budget $250 for each kid, twice a year. I do a fall/winter capsule and a spring/summer capsule. I don’t include winter jackets / bibs etc, but I usually spend $30-$60 on each kid for their snow gear (love H&M, Amazon, and garage sales for these!). I shop a lot of sales and try to be really patient as I put their wardrobes together to get the best prices. If you sign up fo H&M’s mailing list, they’ll send you a coupon several times a year, which really helps. I also watch small shops around holidays and/or I sign up for their email lists!

The $250 isn’t GOSPEL. Like, it’s ok if I go over a little, but it gives me some good boundaries.

I don’t shop second-hand very often. Honestly, I just don’t enjoy the process. I feel like it takes HOURS of my time to go through all the clothes and only find a few items each trip. It isn’t worth it to me right now in this season. I think shopping second hand is a wonderful thing, and I need to get better at it, but for now, it’s not a priority for me and that’s ok :)

I ordered everything slightly large so that Liv will fit in everything for several months. She is currently wearing 12-18 months, so I ordered 2T in many of the items above.

When it came to picking shoes, I LOVE converse, but I also chose them because they fit with Liv’s AFO orthotics. She specifically needed lace-up shoes and these worked perfectly! She also got a pair of Locke’s hand-me-down cowboy boots from target for playing outside in the mud :) When she' grows out of her orthotics, in the fall or next year, I would love to get her a pair of Adelisa and Co leather boots. They would match with all of these outfits as well!
